San Francisco California
Golden Gate District - SF Bay Area - The Greatest Troop!
Established in 1959, Troop 343 is one of the most active Boy Scout troops in the Golden Gate District in the San Francisco Bay Area Council. In 2009, the Troop celebrated its 50th year in scouting.
Run entirely by volunteers, the adult leaders have over 350 years of scouting experience and pride themselves on the knowledge and training they bring to the scouts.
A typical year in the troop includes weekly meetings, and monthly activities such as day hikes, overnight camping trips, community service projects, a weekend ski trip, and summer camp at BSA Camp Royaneh located in the redwoods near the Russian River.
The troop's summer "high adventure" trip, for our more experienced scouts, have included backpacking in the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne River in Yosemite, the Trinity Alps of Northern California, the High Sierras, the isolated Lost Coast of California, the Virgin River Canyon in Zion National Park, California's Catalina Island, Half Dome, and Hawaii.
Troop 343 offers great opportunities for a scout to expand his knowledge and experience in leadership. The troop instills in the scouts the duy fo helping others, especially helping younger scouts advance. The troop teaches scouts to give back to others what they have learned. This is in the finest and highest tradition of scouting.
A typical scout year in Troop 343 concludes with the advancement of several members to the highest achievement in scouting - Eagle Scout. The troop has one of the highest success rates of scouts earning the rank of Eagle in the Nation. Troop 343's leaders and parents are proud of the success the troop has had in scouts accomplishing the rank of Eagle.
